'One Plus One' art exhibit

Gallery, St. Meinrad, IN, is hosting an art exhibit called "One
Plus One" from April 19 through May 30.
The exhibit showcases the art of two friends, Br. Martin
Erspamer, OSB, and Kazhia Kolb.
Br. Martin will be showing drawings and ceramics. His work in
ceramic ranges from functional pieces to more sculptural work.
Glazes are used to produce a variety of colors and textures.
Some pieces are decorated with delicate line drawings, while other
work is deeply incised, producing figurative work of dramatic
Br. Martin is an accomplished artist in many media. For many
years, he designed and painted stained glass windows for the Emil
Frei Stained Glass Studio. St. Mary of the Knobs Church in Floyds
Knobs, IN, is a nearby example of his work.
Br. Martin was a member of a Marianist community in St. Louis,
MO, from 1971until his transfer to Saint Meinrad in 2005. He has a
master's degree in fine art from Boston University and
certification as a liturgical designer from the Catholic
Theological Union of Chicago.
Kazhia Kolb will be showing block
linoleum prints, which develop from quick sketches done in
locations such as cafes, restaurants or parks. Block printing inks
are brushed onto a carved linoleum block, leaving brush marks that
make each print individual. The prints are enhanced by the addition
of watercolors and/or collaged decorative Japanese paper.
Kolb was born in New York City. She grew up near London,
England, and in 1971 moved to Paris, France, to study at the
Sorbonne and at the École des Beaux Arts. She has lived in the
United States since 1978 and in St. Meinrad since 2006.
