Fiber artist Penny Sisto to display work at Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library
Tuesday, July 17- Sunday, August 26
Location: Archabbey Library Gallery
The
work of fiber artist Penny Sisto will be featured in the Saint
Meinrad Archabbey Library Gallery, St. Meinrad, IN, from July 17
through August 26. She resides in Floyds Knobs, IN, and has
exhibited widely in the region, as well as nationally and
internationally.
This exhibit, titled "Prayer Banners," displays a group of
quilts that echo her faith. Sisto says, "All paths lead to the
Divine…I walk down my path one stitch at a time."
Making quilts has always been central to the artist's life. At
the age of 3, her grandmother taught her to sew in Scotland. Later,
while working in East Africa as a midwife, she learned beading and
collage techniques. The Maasai people taught her to crochet and to
revel in color. She is inspired by the colors and textures of
fabric that she pieces together in imaginative ways.
Her work is found in many public and private collections,
including the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art, Spalding University,
Abbey of Gethsemani, Sisters of Loretto and Brescia University.
For library hours, call (812) 357-6401 or (800) 987-7311, or
visit the Archabbey Library's website:

The exhibit is free and open to the public. Those wishing to
view the exhibit may want to arrive at least 30 minutes before
closing time.
