Saint Meinrad Archabbey

A catholic monastery devoted to the teachings of St. Benedict

August 14-20, 2017

Father Timothy, our 7th Abbot and 4th Archabbot, died on Thursday at 4 in the morning. He served our community for 17 years as Abbot as well as many other assignments during his 61 years as a monk. Read more about Fr. Timothy here.

On Tuesday, August 15, we celebrated the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Archabbot Kurt presided, and it was the first time we were able to ring all six bells since Bell 6 was reinstalled after its repair. Our main meal followed midday prayer on Tuesday, where we enjoyed colloquium (talking) at table with open seating. Normally, we sit in seniority at our main meal (which is in the evening typically).

A handful of monks traveled to Novice Noel's relative's house near Hopkinsville, KY, to experience the Total Solar Eclipse this Monday, August 21. His family prepared some traditional Filipino food. Great hospitality and a great event in nature to experience!

Brothers John Mark and Kolbe have been baking some tasty bread, including some delicious focaccia bread that we had this week. They also take leftover beer grains from Brothers Nathaniel and Jean's beer and mix that in some bread recipes.

Each day the monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey write another page in the long history of Benedictine monks throughout the world. Here are recent events chronicled at Saint Meinrad.
