Saint Meinrad Archabbey

A catholic monastery devoted to the teachings of St. Benedict

February 21-27, 2017

We had a pretty full weekend this weekend, and it consisted of most of our news from this past week:

  • At Mass on Friday, we celebrated the one-year death anniversary of Abbot Alan.

  • Men from St. Bartholomew Parish in Columbus, Indiana, spent the weekend on the Hill for their annual retreat.

  • We hosted several of our co-workers in physical facilities and housekeeping, as well as members of the Durchholz family, local Knights of Columbus members and a handful of oblates for an open house and dinner on Saturday. We were able to show these women and men around our house for which they so graciously helped us move out of and back into for our renovation. We all enjoyed one another's company in our monastery dining room with a tasty meal prepared by our hard-working kitchen staff. Mr. Gary Guy, Father Jeremy and Brothers Martin and Peduru planned the event for the 43 guests who were able to attend.

  • On Sunday we had our Eucharist Day. At the end of Mass, we began Eucharistic Adoration until Vespers. Monks signed up in pairs to pray with the Blessed Sacrament until Vespers.

At our Chapter meeting on Wednesday, the capitulars elected Father Subprior Guerric as our delegate, and Father Adrian as the alternate delegate, for the General Chapter to be held this June 22-26 at Conception Abbey. Among the agenda items will be the election of a new Abbot President, as Abbot Vincent has indicated his desire to step down after his fine service of six years.

The National Players will be performing "Hamlet" and "The Giver" on Friday and Saturday this weekend. More information here.

Our Alumni Office created a new e-magazine called Voices from the Vineyard. This new publication focuses on stories about alumni working in the Church. Link to the e-magazine: http://alumni.saintmeinrad.edu/page/voices

Beginning this Lent, in addition to continuing his work with our Institute of Priests and Presbyterates and his serving in several chaplaincies in our area, Father Luke will spend most Monday afternoons as chaplain at Jasper Memorial Hospital.

Regarding Lent, be assured of our prayers for you that you have a fruitful and reflective Lent. Let us continue to hold one another in prayer.

Each day the monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey write another page in the long history of Benedictine monks throughout the world. Here are recent events chronicled at Saint Meinrad.
