Saint Meinrad Archabbey

A catholic monastery devoted to the teachings of St. Benedict

July 12-16, 2017

Several of our oblates spent some time on the Hill for retreat on Tuesday, July 11, for the Feast of St. Benedict and All Benedictine Saints. Father Prior John presided at our liturgies, and he explained in the homily at Mass that Benedictine communities have the option of when to celebrate the Solemnity and Feast of St. Benedict. We celebrate the solemnity on March 21 -- the presumed date of the passing of St. Benedict.

The "One Bread, One Cup" staff and interns left Wednesday for Conception Abbey for their fourth summer conference and the first one "on the road." Our Father Brendan, president-rector of Conception Seminary College, welcomed the crew Wednesday evening.

The Institute for Priests and Presbyterates' mini-sabbatical program began last week. Father Meinrad is participating in the program, and Brother William is helping in various capacities.

On Sunday, we celebrated the Solemnity of Our Lady of Einsiedeln. Archabbot Kurt presided at our liturgies, and we also transferred the celebration of his anniversary of blessing as abbot to Sunday as well. His actual anniversary of blessing is July 26.

Brother Nathaniel is planning a hike for any interested monks at nearby Ferdinand State Forest.

Each day the monks of Saint Meinrad Archabbey write another page in the long history of Benedictine monks throughout the world. Here are recent events chronicled at Saint Meinrad.
