Director of Health Services

Introduction

Saint Meinrad Archabbey is seeking a full-time, salaried Director of Health Services. 

This individual will serve as the Director of Health Services, including the Health Service Clinic, the Monastery Infirmary, and the wellness program. This involves providing leadership for ensuring that all Health Services areas offer quality, professional, and compassionate care by effectively managing the day to day clinical and administrative functions.

This person will manage a multi-disciplinary health care team to ensure competent and available services as needed. This includes ensuring that all policies and procedures follow the highest standards in nursing care and meet regulatory standards. The Director also oversees the effectiveness of wellness initiatives and programs that are promoted to the Archabbey community.



Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Health Service

  • Supervise and assist in providing patient care services, which includes medical histories, physical exams, treatment of common injuries, initial emergency care, treatment of acute ambulatory and chronic illnesses, performance of basic medical procedures and treatments, providing patient education and counseling, referrals to physicians and other health care providers, and the dispensing of prescription drugs as directed by the physician.
  • Coordinate the schedule and work directly with the Health Service M.D.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality and appropriateness of care being provided.
  • Confer with other healthcare professionals to determine the most appropriate treatment plans, including the patient, as appropriate.
  • Develop and monitor policies to ensure that excellent standards of practice are in place that meet the appropriate regulatory standards and laws.
  • Ensure that all pertinent patient information is collected and documented in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assure that appropriate medical records are confidentially maintained.
  • Develop and monitor co-worker staffing to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Schedule and/or provide weekend management coverage and on-call duties on a rotating basis or as needed.
  • Oversee that all equipment is in working order, cleaned, calibrated, and serviced as needed.
  • Ensure that all supplies and medications are stocked and stored securely.
  • Oversee the administration of Medicare and Medicaid filing for the monks.

Monastery Infirmary

  • Supervise and assist in the nursing care of all infirmary residents using established nursing procedure in conjunction with physician orders, including daily personal hygiene, restorative and rehabilitative care, technical procedures, such as delivery of intravenous fluids, administration of medications in all forms.
  • Ensure nursing on call 24/7 after office hours.
  • Ensure that all pertinent patient information is collected and documented in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assure that appropriate medical records are confidentially maintained.
  • Arrange for regular patient rounds by a physician.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality and appropriateness of care being provided.
  • Oversee that all equipment is in working order, cleaned, calibrated, and serviced as needed.
  • Ensure that all supplies and medications are stocked and stored securely.
  • Establish and coordinate activities for Infirmary residents and other senior monks.
  • Admit and discharge Infirmary patients.
  • Assess and assist all patient walk-ins to the Infirmary.
  • Follow up and assist all monastery residents.
  • Oversee the housekeeping and cleanliness of Infirmary.

Wellness Program

  • Direct and support wellness coordinator.
  • Meet routinely with wellness coordinator to set yearly goals for the fitness and wellness programs.
  • Plan and oversee wellness programs for monks, students, co-workers, and spouses on the health plan.

Management

  • Recruit, hire, develop, evaluate, discipline, and reward staff as appropriate.
  • Ensure the accuracy of payroll records for Health Services’ co-workers.
  • Manage all workers’ compensation cases in compliance with Indiana Workers’ Compensation Statute.
  • Prepare an annual operating budget.
  • Oversee the purchasing and billing of health service supplies, services, and equipment while employing the most effective cost control methods possible.
  • Serve as monastery victim assistant coordinator.
  • Serve on the following committees: Sex Abuse, HR, Wellness/5K, Administrative Cabinet and Chair of Mental Well-Being, and other committees as requested.


Experience & Qualifications

  • 4+ years nursing experience, including experience in supervision, rehabilitative nursing, psychiatric nursing, geriatric nursing, and community health.
  • Health clinic operational knowledge.
  • Advanced knowledge in general nursing theory and practice.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Expertise in performing basic and complex nursing procedures.
  • Knowledge of worksite wellness, disease management.
  • Knowledge of wellness and health coaching.
