Gift Shop Associate

Introduction

The Gift Shop Associate is responsible for creating a sense of welcome and hospitality while also providing excellent customer service for all customer needs and purchases. This role will assist in the daily retail operation such as pricing, stocking, displaying of merchandise. Some weekend work is required.



Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Create the perfect customer experience by being pleasant, responsible, and efficient to meet or exceed customer’s needs. This includes greeting customers as they come in the door.
  • Ensure excellence and knowledge in the products being sold as well as have a strong ability to merchandise items in an effective and appealing manner. Present merchandise with enthusiasm and assist in the selection by making recommendations to customer. 
  • Accurately answer routine questions/inquiries pertaining to the Archabbey, local area, and items sold in the gift shop in a helpful and courteous manner.
  • Open and close gift shop at designated times.
  • Perform sales transactions, both cash and credit, bagging, and payment.
  • Receive, price, and display appropriate merchandise. Move items to sale as requested by manager.
  • Support maintaining adequate everyday inventory to drive sales and guest satisfaction, including communication with vendors when appropriate. 
  • Make notes of merchandise requests from customers to share with the manager.
  • Share ideas on how to improve the gift shop.
  • Restock depleted or low shop items and ensure that the sales floor is organized.
  • Perform regular price audits to identify and correct price discrepancies
  • Perform end-of-day cleaning duties, which includes wiping down windows, mirrors, and fixtures as well as sweeping and mopping the floor.
  • Address and resolve customer complaints in a professional manner.
  • Inform the customer of special in-store specials and promotions and their advantages.
  • Thank customer for visiting the gift shop and encourage them to return.
  • Accurately count money and process sales.
  • Utilize POS software, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and compose email correspondence.
  • Order and stock merchandise, snacks and supplies for the Gift Shop.
  • Assist in training new co-workers on the correct procedures and policies.
  • Assist in taking and processing phone and web orders.
  • Cross-train on some duties performed by the Associate Director to cover in his/her absence as needed:
    • Prepare sales deposits and deliver to Business Office.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Experience & Qualifications

Education:  High school education

Experience:  1+ years

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Requires reading of general instructions, basic writing skills, basic arithmetic, need to communicate well with customers and fellow co-workers. 
  • Experience and knowledge of computers and money is preferred. 
  • Focusing on our customer needs by offering the best products. 
  • Customer service should always be our day-to-day goal, as well as striving to continue to improve our gift shop and ourselves.
  • Light to medium lifting depending on stocking and receiving inventory.
  • Able to walk, stand, stoop, climb ladders, lift boxes, some pushing and pulling.
