Sr. Jeana Visel, OSB, named director of Lay Degree Programs

130611_Sr Jeana Visel -for -webSr. Jeana Visel, OSB, has been named the new director of the Lay Degree Programs at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology, St. Meinrad, IN.

She succeeds Fr. Brendan Moss, OSB, who will begin a five-year term as president-rector of Conception Seminary College in Conception, MO, this summer.

Since the spring of 2013, Sr. Jeana has served has director of assessment and orders documentarian for the Seminary and School of Theology.

A member of the Sisters of St. Benedict at Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, IN, she earned a bachelor's degree in religious studies from Kenyon College and a master of arts in theology from St. John's University. She is currently pursuing a doctor of ministry degree from The Catholic University of America.

Sr. Jeana also paints icons and has given presentations on the process and spirituality of painting icons. Her book, Icons in the Western Church: Toward a More Sacramental Encounter, will be published by Liturgical Press.

In addition, she is the co-chair of the national Women of the Church conference, which will be held in October 2016. She also has taught a graduate course on icons and has been a presenter and spiritual director for Saint Meinrad's "One Bread, One Cup" summer conferences.

She begins her new position on May 1.
