"A major part of our work as a monastic community is to pray," said Fr. Adrian Burke, OSB, who spoke at the banquet. "As men committed to prayer, we pray often for the success of our business ventures - for your success. We believe in the work you do - that it is meaningful and value-laden. And a world too often caught up in superficial values, scandalously engaged in violence, and beaten down by anxiety, fear and terror needs a positive message of hope and charity, mercy and Godly values."

Seven co-workers received special recognition during the banquet. Pam Dowland of Tell City, IN; Jim Backer of St. Meinrad, IN; Anita Davis of St. Croix, IN; and Rita Marsili of Gatchel, IN; were honored for reaching 40 years of service.

Becky Emmons of Ferdinand, IN; Gary Graman of St. Meinrad, IN; and Mike Ziemianski of Floyds Knobs, IN; were honored for 25 years of service.

She began working full time in the keypunch area of Abbey Press in August 1976. In March 1989, she moved to the accounting clerk position in the Business Office and, in March 1994, she transferred to Human Resources.

Pam and her husband, Larry, have five children and eight grandchildren.

Jim Backer has been supervising the Press Department since June 2013. Prior to that, he was the head six-color press operator for the day shift. He attended Perry Central Jr./Sr. High School and, a week after his 18th birthday, he applied for work at Abbey Press and started full time in the Press Department a few days later.

Jim and his wife, Lee Ann, have three sons and four grandchildren.

Anita Davis works in the Bindery Department of Abbey Press as an insert machine operator and bindery helper. She has worked on several different machines over the years, including the Magnacraft, inserter and collator. She has also worked in the Sculpture Department and at the Gift Shop getting ready for yard sales.

Anita and her husband, P.J., have two children.

Rita Marsili works at Abbey Press Plant 2 as product manager, a position she's held since 2007. She also assumed purchasing and sourcing duties in the summer of 2015. Prior to that, she was production scheduler, customer service representative and prepress supervisor in the Printing Division.

Other duties at Saint Meinrad have included work in the Shipping Department, production assistant and administrative coordinator for Trade Marketing, art and composition supervisor, assistant director of human resources and prepress supervisor.

Rita and her husband, Frank, have five children and eight grandchildren.

Becky Emmons is the mailings clerk in the Development Office. Gary Graman works in the Physical Facilities Department in general maintenance and as a locksmith. Mike Ziemianski is vice president for development for the Archabbey.

Those honored for 40 years of service received a double set of specially minted solid silver coins depicting St. Meinrad, the martyr of hospitality, on the front and the Archabbey's coat of arms on the back. Each of the 25-year honorees was presented with the Saint Meinrad silver coin.
