Saint Meinrad Archabbey Cultural Events, St. Meinrad, IN, will present baritone Benjamin Appl and pianist James Baillieu in recital on October 26, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. Central Time in the St. Bede Theater.
The evening’s program will feature works by a diverse range of composers, including selections highlighted in Appl and Baillieu’s recent recording projects, celebrating both classic and contemporary art song repertoire.
Benjamin Appl is recognized as one of today’s leading song recitalists. He was named Gramophone Award Young Artist of the Year in 2016 and has been a member of the BBC New Generation Artist scheme, a Wigmore Hall Emerging Artist, and an ECHO Rising Star. He has performed at major venues throughout Europe, including the Barbican Centre London, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Wiener Konzerthaus, Philharmonie Paris and Cologne, and Laeiszhalle Hamburg. From 2016 to 2021, he was signed exclusively to SONY Classical and currently maintains a long-term recording collaboration with Alpha Classics.
Accompanying him at the piano, James Baillieu is a leading song and chamber music pianist who has performed worldwide and collaborated with distinguished artists including Benjamin Appl, Jamie Barton, Ian Bostridge, Allan Clayton, Annette Dasch, Lise Davidsen, the Elias and Heath Quartets, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Timothy Ridout, Adam Walker, and Pretty Yende. He has also appeared as a soloist with the Ulster Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, and Wiener Kammersymphonie.
