Saint Meinrad’s first abbot, Martin Marty, became interested in missionary work, particularly to the Native Americans. In the 1880s, the monks of Saint Meinrad became intensely involved with the Sioux tribes in the Dakota Territory. One of Saint Meinrad’s daughter houses, Blue Cloud Abbey, was founded in the 1950s. Join us for National Native American Day as we view a video documentary of the founding of Blue Cloud Abbey and a brief presentation by Fr. Denis Quinkert, OSB, twice elected
abbot of Blue Cloud. (Tour of Saint Meinrad Archabbey 1:30 p.m., Presentation/Q&A with Fr. Denis 2:30 p.m., Documentary viewing 3 p.m., free and open to the public; all times are Central Time)
